JBL, Virgil van Dijk and Vivendii collaborate for exclusive Afrobeats-inspired fashion drop
London, 18th September 2023 – JBL and Vivendii are launching the exclusive fashion drop dedicated to exploring the world of Afrobeats. The Afrobeats Capsule Collection designed by Vivendii, combines their signature gradient, tie-dye inspired style with JBL’s bold, eye-catching colours. It takes inspiration from plastic buckets and bowls traditionally used in Nigeria, as well as JBL’s signature orange.
The collection features a t-shirt, tracksuit, jacket and bag, all streetwear essentials, with a striped football jersey also included as a nod to Virgil van Dijk and the rise in popularity of customised jerseys. Matching the clothing collection designs with eye-catching colours, are special editions of some of JBL’s most popular products including the JBL PartyBox 310 and JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi.
Why this drop? “Music and fashion go hand in hand. Afrobeats empowers young people to express themselves freely, so to explore its music and fashion with our ambassador and Afrobeats fan, Virgil van Dijk, has been an exciting process for us. Through their work, the team at Vivendii promote self-expression and amplify the voices of sub-genres and cultures. This aligns naturally with JBL's values, which makes this collaboration such a great fit.” said Robert-Jan van Dormael, Vice President Integrated Marketing EMEA HARMAN
“It’s all about the way people express themselves,” added Jimmy Ayeni at Vivendii. “Every collection we’ve produced has a soundtrack behind it and this collaboration with JBL is no different. We try to tie into fashion how we express ourselves musically.”
In this short film about the collaboration, van Dijk is joined by Vivendii founders, Jimmy Ayeni and Ola Badiru, as they explore the world of Afrobeats, as well as Dutch artist, Amartey, and Nigerian artist, Deto Black, helping Virgil to dive deeper into the genre.
